A dive into the archives of The Retriever Weekly doesn't just excavate the history of UMBC, but it also reveals the trail of where students spent their hours after class. This ad from a 1975 newspaper is for the legendary Peabody Bookshop and Beer Stube -- a mainstay on N. Charles Street from 1927 to 1986. It opened as a book store during Prohibition and added beer to the menu when the 18th Amendment was repealed. The Peabody was frequented by legendary author H.
