2012 was a watershed moment for the arts and humanities at UMBC when the first phase of the university's new Performing Arts and Humanities Building (aka the "PAHB") opened in time for the Fall Semester. The first departments to move were English and theatre, along with the Dresher Center for the Humanities. Upon its completion two years later, the building was also home to the music, ancient studies and philosophy departments.
